Description of facility and application
Gresham Sanitary Service (dba GSS Transfer, LLC.) submitted an application to Metro for a change of authorization to its transfer station franchise to increase the amount of putrescible (wet) waste received at GSS Transfer, LLC., and transported for disposal to Wasco County Landfill, and in unusual or emergency circumstances, to Coffin Butte Landfill. GSS Transfer is currently authorized to accept up to 23,687 tons of waste annually and has requested an increase to 49,000 tons annually.
Gresham Sanitary Service is a locally owned and operated company that has operated in the Gresham area since 1948. Since 1992, Gresham Sanitary has been operating a solid waste consolidation and reload facility for its own hauling company at its base of operations located at 2131 NW Birdsdale Avenue in Gresham. Gresham Sanitary collects waste from its routes and transports it to its facility for consolidation and top-loading into transfer trailers. The consolidated waste is then long haul transported primarily to the Wasco County Landfill. (Formerly, the consolidated waste was transported to other transfer stations such as Metro Central or Troutdale Transfer Stations where it was transported to a landfill for disposal). If approved by Metro, the applicant would continue its current operation and receive authorization to transport additional waste from third party haulers for disposal.
