Metro is required to document funded projects scheduled to use federal funds over the next four years. The current cycle is documented in the 2024-27 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program.
Metro is in receipt of the proposed MTIP formal amendments:
The purpose of this amendment is to complete the required transition actions to the new 2024-27 MTIP. Subject to revisions to address comments received during the public comment period, the 2021-24 MTIP as revised by the proposed amendment will be the final program unless amended, and a final notice will not be published. This amendment adds seven new projects to enable the required federal fund obligations to occur:
- Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 36th Avenue safety upgrades: a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon traffic signal will be constructed. This project was part of the ODOT Inner Powell Road Safety Audit which determined this location will benefit from adding a traffic signal.
- 181st Avenue safety upgrades from Southeast Stark Street to East Burnside Street: new traffic signals, adding/upgrade sidewalks, buffered bike lane, lighting and utility upgrades for greater pedestrian safety.
- The ODOT Regional Rideshare project grouping bucket is added to support regional rideshare activities. Urbanized public transit capital funding for Federal fiscal year 2023 will be transferred to the Federal Transit Administration for delivery. Projects and programs to be determined based on funding requirements.
- Design and implement the next generation transit signal priority upgrade along TriMet's Line 33 to improve reliability of transit service.
- Complete project development activities in support of the planned new 82nd Avenue Bus Rapid Transit system. This includes preliminary design, addressing environmental and materials requirements, and other activities needed to obtain a Small Starts grant.
- Funding increase to support mobility management activities, purchase of services, operating, and preventative maintenance on vehicles for services focused on the elderly and persons with disabilities within the Portland Urbanized Area in Federal FY 2026.
