The region’s overall progress in waste reduction has failed to keep pace with growing waste generation rates. Strong economic growth, particularly in the construction and demolition and commercial sectors, has fueled the growth in waste generation. As a part of the next planning stages, a survey of North America was conducted of programs that focus on required recycling or incentives for materials generated by the commercial and construction and demolition waste streams.
The report highlights the critical elements, barriers and major lessons learned from the surveyed programs and makes recommendations for the metro region.
