In November the Metro Council will consider amending Metro's review process for solid waste rates to increase transparency, improve efficiency and expand opportunities for public input. The potential changes follow an internal evaluation of Metro’s practices in setting disposal charges at its two transfer stations. Recommendations include aligning the review process with Metro’s budget schedule, adopting more current rate setting practices and adding independent technical review.
A proposed ordinance and staff report will be available from the Metro Council office and online Nov. 2. The Metro Council will review the ordinance at a Nov. 3 work session, followed by a first reading on Nov. 5 and a second reading, along with a public hearing, on Nov. 12.
