ESAC is a gathering of community members and leaders who meet monthly to discuss advancing equity in the greater Portland area, including areas as diverse as education, healthcare, access to transportation and other services. The committee advises Metro’s chief operating officer on the formation of the agency's equity strategy.

Metro’s Transportation Policy Alternatives Committee, or TPAC, is seeking volunteers interested in transportation issues. Three community-member appointments are open for two-year terms starting in January. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 11, 2015. The Metro Council expects to make the appointments in January.

Metro regional trails coordinator Mel Huie was recognized Saturday night for his contributions to the Portland region’s walkability as pedestrian advocacy group Oregon Walks presented him with the 2015 Legacy Award at its annual Weston Awards dinner.

Mill closure prompts Metro Council to change wood waste recycling rules

The move to suspend part of the Metro Code came after the closure of a paper mill in Newberg. That mill burned about 350 tons of the Portland region's wood waste every day, keeping that wood from being buried in a landfill.
