Small but diverse group attends Making the Greatest Place hearing in Happy Valley

There might have been a lot of empty seats at the Happy Valley City Hall, but there was certainly no lack of ideas or discussion. The public hearing on the Chief Operating Officer's (COO) recommendations Thursday night included a diverse set of four people offering testimony -- a mayor, a lawyer, a citizen and a public advocate.

Metro secured its first land acquisition in the Rock Creek Watershed and Greenway target area in September with the purchase of 20 acres on the edge of Portland. The acquisition safeguards water quality in the Rock Creek watershed and protects wildlife habitat in the Abbey Creek headwaters.

Cycling advocates generally positive about Metro staff growth recommendations

Despite a few specific complaints, the members of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance board were generally receptive Tuesday to Metro staff's growth report, saying it emphasized goals of reducing greenhouse gases, protecting the environment and making transportation more usable.
