Metro Research Center director Mike Hoglund announced his retirement Friday, saying he'll end his 23-year career at the regional government on April 30.
Hoglund, who previously was the director of Metro's solid waste and recycling department, has run the research center since 2008. A graduate of Portland State, Hoglund joined Metro in 1990 as a transportation planning supervisor after working as a planner for the city of Portland.
"I’ve greatly appreciated all the opportunities Metro has afforded me over the years to work on significant regional issues related to growth management, transportation and solid waste management. Again, it's been great working with such a dedicated leadership team and with savvy elected officials," said Hoglund.
As research center director, Hoglund has headed Metro's transportation and population forecasting, mapping out data and efforts to improve equity through mapping and data collaboration.
"Mike’s work on the Portland Pulse, the Metro Context Tool and many other projects will help ensure Metro continues to be respected for its outstanding data resources and analytical capabilities," said Metro chief operating officer Martha Bennett. "Mike’s leadership and great sense of humor will be greatly missed but his contributions to Metro and our region will carry on."
