Metro Council President Tom Hughes on Tuesday appointed Alison Kean Campbell as Metro Attorney, subject to Metro Council confirmation on Feb. 16. The Metro Attorney is one of two positions the Metro Council president appoints.
"Alison has 16 years of experience with Metro. She did a terrific job serving our region as acting Metro Attorney for much of last year," Hughes said. "She is everything we could hope for in our lead counsel. Our entire region will benefit from her expertise and exceptional work ethic."
Kean Campbell has practiced law for 23 years. She has worked for Metro for 16 years. Kean Campbell graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1988, where she was an associate editor of the Michigan Law Review. She holds a degree in economics from Case Western Reserve University.
In 1996, Kean Campbell was hired as the lead lawyer in charge of implementing Metro's first natural area acquisition program. In 2008, Kean Campbell was promoted to the role of Deputy Metro Attorney, and in February 2011 she was appointed as the acting Metro Attorney.
Prior to joining Metro, Kean Campbell worked in private practice in Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Portland, focusing on complex civil and commercial litigation. Kean Campbell is licensed to practice law in both Oregon and Washington.
Kean Campbell's appointment follows Hughes' appointment of Chief Operating Officer Martha Bennett in September 2011.
Kean Campbell replaces Daniel B. Cooper, who announced last month he would resign from the post in mid-February after 25 years, to transition to his retirement from Metro in November 2012. Hughes has scheduled a Metro Council vote on a resolution to confirm Kean Campbell's appointment for Feb. 16.
Metro crosses city limits and county lines to work with communities to create a vibrant and sustainable region for all.
