Metro's paint recycling operation is phasing in 1-gallon paint cans made from 100 percent recycled plastic. The containers, which eventually will replace MetroPaint's steel cans, cost less and are locally made. They're also recyclable at the curb and selected area recycling centers – just remove any paint residue, put the plastic lid in the can and detach the metal handle for recycling with other small metals.
The recyclable cans help keep plastic, a harder-to-recycle material, out of the landfill. And with their reverse-tuxedo look of black trim above and below the MetroPaint label, they'll stand out on store shelves, too.
Since 1992, Metro has recycled more than 1.5 million gallons of latex paint, helping the environment and conserving natural resources. Through its hazardous waste program, Metro collects unused paint from households and businesses, turning quality leftover latex into award-winning MetroPaint. The recycled product, available in 18 blendable colors, is certified by Green Seal and the Master Painters Institute.
