It’s a lot of stuff – and it all has to go somewhere. When your hauler takes the trash from your curb, it often travels to a transfer center, a temporary depot to store waste before heading to the landfill.
Transfer centers also allow private citizens to get rid of their excess junk, bulky items, recyclables and household hazardous wastes - the things that are difficult to dispose of.
Unlike the rest of the region, Washington County does not have a full service, publicly owned transfer center, leaving people without an easy and affordable way to get rid of their excess stuff.
Metro planners have identified a potential site for a transfer facility in Cornelius, a place that could be both an essential part of the garbage and recycling system and an asset to the community.
