What do an indigenous market place featuring vendors of all ages and an art gallery that elevates the work of queer artists have in common with a program that helps victims of trauma heal through playwriting?
They are all past recipients of Metro's Community Placemaking grants. This program helps communities take on challenges and create opportunities for positive change through arts-based, equity-focused projects.
Community Placemaking projects stem from ideas developed by the communities each project seeks to serve. Community members help lead and implement the projects, with an emphasis on serving people of color and other historically marginalized communities.
Metro started this program in 2017, and will continue to award Community Placemaking grants in 2020. The application window for the new cycle close at noon on Feb. 3, 2020.
With up to $190,000 available in funds, Metro will award grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. More information is available on the 2020 Community Placemaking grant cycle page on Metro’s website. The grant application handbook is available here.
Metro staff is available to help applicants think through their proposal and develop a strong application.
