Definitions

MSA = Metropolitan Statistical Area, a geographical region with a relatively high population density at its core and close economic ties throughout the area
SMSA = Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area, or the four-county Portland metropolitan area: Clark County in Washington, plus Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties in Oregon
PMSA = Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area, or the seven-county Portland-Hillsboro-Vancouver, OR-WA MSA. Five of the seven counties are in Oregon: Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, Yamhill. Two of the counties are in Washington: Clark and Skamania.
