Many of our resident wildlife evolved in a Pacific Northwest landscape that wore a mantle of towering old trees and dense underbrush. For these resident wildlife, the ones that stay put during our temperate winter, old forests provide the best winter refuge.

Portland region sees decline in recycling and composting rate

Nearly 60 percent of what Portland-area residents and businesses threw away in 2014 was recovered through recycling, composting or energy generation. And while that number is 10 percentage points higher than it was a decade ago, the 2014 calculation also marks the region’s first decline in nearly a decade.

Metro’s Transportation Policy Alternatives Committee, or TPAC, is seeking volunteers interested in transportation issues. Three community-member appointments are open for two-year terms starting in January. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 11, 2015. The Metro Council expects to make the appointments in January.
