Metro is celebrating an important milestone for the Tualatin Valley Highway transit project, laying the groundwork for improved transit and safety along the corridor. On Feb. 13, the project Steering Committee recommended a locally preferred alternative (LPA), which identifies the project’s transit mode, route and general station locations. The committee also approved a funding strategy to secure local, regional, state and federal funding for the project.
The preferred mode for the project is TriMet Frequent Express (FX) – a high-capacity bus service that provides faster and more reliable bus service through transit signal priority, bus priority treatments and consolidated stops. FX bus service on TV Highway will improve bus frequency to every 12 minutes every day, most hours of the day. FX service also includes zero-emission buses, meaning less noise and cleaner air.
The recommended route will follow TriMet’s current Line 57, operating between Beaverton Transit Center and Forest Grove. The LPA recommendation includes 85 general station locations with amenities including curbs, shelters, lighting, seating and real-time arrival information. All stations will also include enhanced pedestrian crossings or traffic signal, bringing significant safety benefits to the corridor.
In spring and summer of 2025, the project team will seek LPA approval from local jurisdictions along the TV Highway corridor. If funding is secured, construction is expected to start in 2027 and the new bus service could open in 2030. TriMet will oversee the design and construction of the project.
