Lead or join a walk this month leading up to Halloween - the greatest walking holiday of the year. Spearheaded by walking advocacy nonprofit Oregon Walks, and sponsored in part by Metro, the three-week celebration of "Walktober" encourages discovering your surroundings on foot.
The third annual Walktober event series begins October 3. Walks across the region are highlighted on Oregon Walks' Walktober calendar. Anyone can lead a Walktober walk. Want to lead a walk in your neighborhood? Simply add it to the calendar. Join the fun at walktoberpdx.org.
The series kicks off Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 a.m. with 'Breakfast OFF the Bridges' – with free coffee and snacks for pedestrian and bike commuters at the Third Avenue Temporary Street Redesign project being put on by Better Block PDX. Join in across the street from Voodoo Doughnut on SW Third Avenue at Ankeny Street.
In addition, Peter Koonce from Portland Bureau of Transportation will lead a Downtown Portland Traffic Engineering Walktober walk in the area at 9 a.m. from this location. This event is sponsored by WTS, Lancaster Engineering and the Oregon Institute of Transportation Engineers.
