Dresler brings a strong background and proven abilities to the position. She is a 10-year veteran of the Oregon Zoo (1995–2005) and has previously served as the zoo’s deputy interim director (2009–10). Since 2010, she has served as general manager of Metro Visitor Venues, which includes the Oregon Zoo.
"Under Teri Dresler’s experienced leadership and with the support of Metro, the dedicated Oregon Zoo staff and the community, the zoo will continue focusing on its mission of inspiring the community to create a better future for wildlife by creating engaging experiences and advancing the highest level of animal welfare, environmental literacy and conservation science," said Metro chief operating officer Martha Bennett.
Metro deputy chief operating officer Scott Robinson will manage Visitor Venues while Dresler serves in the leadership role at the zoo.
Veterinarian Mitch Finnegan is also no longer with the zoo. Existing Oregon Zoo veterinarian staff will continue providing care to zoo animals.
It is Metro’s policy not to comment on personnel matters.
In the coming weeks and months, the zoo and Metro leadership will engage stakeholders and the community in conversations about the zoo’s vision and mission. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
