Each American, on average, generates 102 tons of trash in a lifetime. Yet garbage is a resource we literally throw away. It can create natural gas to heat homes and businesses. It can generate electricity and provide alternative energy to reduce our consumption of fossil fuels.
There are interesting possibilities for what we can do with our trash. Tuesday, June 3, learn more about what our garbage can do for us.
Marco Castaldi, a professor of chemical engineering at City University of New York, is a national expert on ways to get more out of the waste we generate. He leads a team of engineers who are researching new and emerging technologies to capture more energy from garbage. He will be in Portland to present information and engage in a discussion about various approaches to getting more out of what we throw away.
