The Nike Cross Nationals is returning to Metro’s Glendoveer Golf and Tennis Center for a second year with the 12th annual competition on Dec. 5.
Four hundred of the fastest high school runners in the country will vie to be national champion on a 5K course that traverses Glendoveer’s pristine, tree-lined fairways and rolling hills.
“What an honor to have the Nike high school cross country national championships return to Glendoveer, a prestigious venue in an area of the region that doesn't get a lot of positive attention,” said Metro Councilor Shirley Craddick, whose district includes Glendoveer. “The course's topography and beauty is a perfect combination to allow a runner to run his or her best. I am proud Nike has selected Glendoveer as their location for the 2015 competition. I hope local runners will attend and become inspired to compete in this event in the future. "
The course at Glendoveer will offer spectators great viewing options, whether they want to follow the race around the course or sit in the grandstands near the finish line.
For those unable to attend, a live webcast of the event will run on nikecrossnationals.com.
“Nike Cross Nationals raises the profile of Glendoveer at a national level and provides a terrific non-golf event for neighbors and other residents to enjoy,” said Justin Patterson, Metro visitor services director. “For me, it was stunning to watch those terrific high school athletes blazing across the course last year.”
Glendoveer also hosted the 2014 Nike Cross Nationals.
Metro, the regional government agency, owns the 231-acre Glendoveer. The site includes a 36-hole daily fee golf facility with four indoor tennis courts, an 18-hole foot golf course, and a covered, heated and lit driving range. Foot golf, played with a soccer ball on the golf course, is also available.
Glendoveer has a fully stocked golf and tennis pro shop in the clubhouse along with an outdoor patio and seating area. Professional staff also offer tennis and golf lessons.
The popular RingSide Grill is also at Glendoveer.
