As it ramps up a nationwide search for its next director, the Oregon Zoo has retained the services of DHR International, one of the largest retained executive search firms in the world.
Established in 1989, DHR has recruited dozens of zoo and aquarium directors, many of whom are now recognized leaders in the field. James Abruzzo, DHR’s global nonprofit practice leader, will manage the assignment. In addition to zoos and aquariums, the firm’s nonprofit practice conducts searches for large performing and visual arts organizations, foundations and educational institutions.
The Oregon Zoo director provides visionary leadership to the management team and staff and will be the interface between the zoo and its stakeholders. The director also represents the zoo in the media and the community, and will ensure that the zoo continues its conservation, education, scientific and research programs.
