Today, I want to thank Governor Kate Brown for signing Senate Bill 927 into law, an important step towards completion of the Oregon Convention Center hotel. Our region can be proud that our state’s executive, legislative and judicial branches agree that Metro’s broad legal authority is crystal clear.
The convention center hotel is an important jobs initiative and we’ve already witnessed job creation, neighborhood redevelopment and a stronger tourism industry in anticipation of a ground-breaking this year. When all is said and done, this project will employ nearly 3,000 Oregonians – equivalent to the number of people employed by Portland State University – in construction and ongoing hospitality jobs.
