The Metro Council today formally appointed Carlotta Collette to the position of Metro Council President to complete the term of former Council President David Bragdon, which ends in January.
Collette, who has represented Metro Council District 2 in Clackamas County and Southwest Multnomah County since 2007, has served as Acting Council President since Bragdon's resignation on Sept. 7. The Metro Charter requires the Metro Council to fill a vacancy on the Council within 90 days of the declaration of a vacancy.
Following today’s vote, Collette resigned her position representing District 2 and was sworn in as Council President. Collette will serve as Council President until Jan. 3, when the winner of the Nov. 2 election will be sworn in. On Jan. 3, Collette will be sworn in again as Metro Councilor for District 2, having won election to that office in last May’s primary election.
Collette takes the helm of the regional government as it prepares to consider whether to expand the region’s urban growth boundary to accommodate population and employment growth forecast for the next 20 years. The Metro Council has scheduled three public hearings on this matter beginning Nov. 29, with a decision expected by Dec. 16. More information on these public hearings can be found online at www.oregonmetro.gov/capacity.
