Planning for Willamette Cove's nature park kicked off this year. The level of interest and excitement from community members shows that no matter if they’ve lived near the cove for decades or just heard about it yesterday, they want to see a nature park at this special place.

The cove still needs to be made safe for a nature park, and the master planning for the upland and in-water cleanups are making progress toward that crucial goal. While they are, Metro’s park planners are developing the design that will guide the park’s construction. To make the best design we can, the Willamette Cove team asked community members to offer their insights and open their imaginations for what the future nature park could be.
In April and May, we held our first round of community engagement. We want to share what we heard.
In this overview we’ll look at:
- what we did during the engagement
- who we heard from (and who we need to do better reaching)
- the key themes we heard from community members
- how we’re using all of the amazing insights community members shared
What’s coming next
Right now, Metro’s Willamette Cove team is using the community feedback to draft three design options for the park. We’re also planning the next round of community engagement, which is penciled in for September and October. There will be another survey, another pair of workshops and an open house where everyone can see the three designs.
