A set of statues, called the Three Elders, stand along the trails at Chehalem Ridge Nature Park, welcoming hikers, bikers and equestrians. The statues were created by a team of artists led by Bobby Mercier, a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Whether through a sign of welcome, dentalium shells or wapato leaves, each figure connects to the Indigenous people of the region who named Chehalem, which means the "Outside Place" in Tualatin Kalaypua.
