Registered voters in Metro Council District 6 can now apply to fill the newly-vacant seat on the Metro Council.
The Metro Council has 90 days to select a replacement for Councilor Bob Stacey, who stepped down from his seat in October to address health concerns.
Applications for the seat are due by the close of business on Jan. 3, 2022. A public hearing on the vacancy and interview of applicants is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Jan. 11, 2022. The public can testify and participate via Zoom, or in person at TaborSpace, 5441 SE Belmont Street in Portland. The council must appoint a replacement no later than Jan. 13.
The applicant selected to serve on the Metro Council will have a term that lasts through Jan. 2, 2023. Separately, an election to serve for the final two years of Stacey’s Metro Council term will also be held in 2022. Candidates for District 6 must file by March 8 for the May 17 primary. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will face off in the Nov. 8 general election, with the winner taking office in January 2023.
