Public art is a tool that links the transit system to our communities. Good public art promotes livability and neighborhood connections by creating places where people want to be. The Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project will allocate 1.5% of the total project cost for public art.
TriMet invites qualified artists to apply for public art commissions through Aug. 20. Up to seven professional, established artists or teams of artists will be selected to create major works for new light rail stations, adjacent station areas and at other significant locations along the alignment.
Emerging public artists from the Pacific Northwest are also encouraged to apply to be short listed for future additional opportunities.
The Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project is a partnership among Metro, TriMet, City of Portland, City of Milwaukie, City of Oregon City, Clackamas County, Multnomah County, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The line will be the region's sixth MAX project, and extends from Portland State University, South Waterfront, SE Portland to Milwaukie and North Clackamas County. The project includes a multi-modal transit bridge over the Willamette River, the first bridge over the river in 35 years. The bridge will carry MAX, buses and the future Portland Streetcar, and includes two bike and pedestrian paths.
