More than 50 people applied to be the next staff chief for Portland's regional government, with the position expected to be filled in the next three months.
Metro isn't releasing the names of the applicants to succeed Michael Jordan as the agency's chief operating officer. But the agency did provide broad demographic data about the applicant pool.
Of the 56 applicants to be the regional government's chief operating officer, 25 came from outside of Oregon, including one international candidate. Ten of the applicants are women. Two of the applicants are Metro employees.
Metro councilors Carl Hosticka and Barbara Roberts are leading the COO search, and are expected to conduct phone interviews of select candidates in mid-July. A new chief operating officer is expected to be in place in September.
The position became open after Michael Jordan, the agency's first appointed chief operating officer, was tapped in February by Gov. John Kitzhaber to serve as the first chief operating officer for the state of Oregon.
