Bike riding is good for your health and saves you money, so Metro and OMSI are teaming up for The Power of the Pedal. The free, bilingual event is open to the public and will provide biking fun for the entire family from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 in OMSI’s front plaza.
Enjoy food and music while learning about bike safety and resources. There will be bike decorating, bike maintenance demonstrations, helmet fittings, a bike rodeo for kids ages six through 10 and much more.
You can also get a preview of a new sustainability campaign hitting the streets next year. OMSI will post signs around the community – in predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods, at public transit stops and near public works projects – that entice people to call a phone number. When they call in, they will hear personal stories shared by community members who planted a garden for the first time, or started commuting by bike, or made other choices that have helped them live more sustainably.
Metro encourages healthy living because it not only benefits you and your family, but the environment at well.
