Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is in the process of restoring its original brick and cast stone facade. Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall's brick and cast stone facade is in the midst of a major makeover. The project involves replicating the facade's original cast stone moldings, dating from 1928, to maintain its historic integrity while freshening up its looks.
"The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is one of Portland’s most beloved landmarks, and it is our responsibility to maintain the building with the utmost care," said Robyn Williams, executive director of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, the organization that manages the hall. "As with any historic building, careful restoration is very important."
To ensure that the project was historically accurate, PCPA worked with Dortignacq Architecture, a Portland firm that specializes in architectural preservation. Pioneer Masonry Restoration Company is contracted to perform the facade's maintenance and repair.
"Our goal is for the Schnitz to continue to be the Grand Dame of Portland Theaters for many years to come," said Williams.
The renovation began June 6 and is expected to be finished in August. The project is being paid for out of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts' maintenance fund.
Portland Center for the Performing Arts is the region’s premier performing arts venue management organization and operates under the guidance of Metro.
