MetroPaint now comes in three sizes – quarts, gallons and 5-gallon containers.
MetroPaint – the locally-produced recycled paint – has added a new feature to its 18-color line: Quart-size cans.
Until now, the Swan Island-based manufacturer offered one-gallon and five-gallon sizes of its recycled latex paint, manufactured from unwanted paint collected from households and businesses across the region.
Ranging from $5 to $7, the cheaper, smaller quart-sized option may help combat additional paint waste in the future. Starting off with smaller quantities of paint, consumers will be less likely to have excess paint at the end of their projects. This process will help chip away at the vast quantities of wasted paint disposed of – or recovered by MetroPaint – yearly.
For 20 years, MetroPaint has provided a sustainable alternative to wasteful and potentially hazardous disposal of leftover paint with its paint-recycling program, currently collecting roughly 325,000 gallons of paint each year. After remixing the various paints to make solid color blends, MetroPaint resells the final product to nearly 50 Oregon and Washington retail stores and at their Swan Island home base.
Like its gallon and five-gallon equivalents, the quarts are available in Green Seal Certified, and Original varieties. Some metallic and seasonal specialty colors not available in the larger sizes are also offered in quarts.
Initially concerned that the main warehouse wouldn’t have enough room to stock the quart-size cans, MetroPaint’s Andrew Staab says that customer feedback and storage availability fueled the product’s introduction. For now, the quarts are only available at MetroPaint’s Swan Island store.
