Help put the "Park" in the Hawthorne Park neighborhood of Clackamas County, attending upcoming public meetings to shape a one-acre recreation area. Metro's Nature in Neighborhoods program awarded the future park a $140,000 capital grant, supplementing funding from the Clackamas County Development Agency.
Developers, residents and an affordable housing provider are among the diverse partners involved in the project, which is located at Southeast King Road and Southeast 75th Avenue in a park-deficient, low-income community. The design will incorporate native plants, nature-based play areas and sustainable features to reduce watering and maintenance.
Public meetings will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 and Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Linwood Avenue Church of Christ, 10110 SE Linwood Ave. in Milwaukie. To request more information or share ideas for the project, email Ken Itel or reach him by phone at 503-742-4324.
Metro’s Nature in Neighborhoods capital grants, which are funded by a voter-approved natural areas bond measure, have invested $3.3 million and counting in innovative projects across the region.
