This Thursday marks the completion of a four-year effort to shape how the region will invest in its transportation network to support jobs, promote safety, protect clean air and enhance existing neighborhoods over the next 25 years.
The 2035 Regional Transportation Plan guides how federal, state, regional and local transportation funds will be invested in highway, transit, bicycling, pedestrian, local streets and other facilities in order to support economic growth, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide more affordable options for getting around the region and meeting everyday needs.
Last December the Metro Council and the Joint Policy Advisory Committee adopted a draft RTP for purposes of conducting a final analysis for conformity with the federal Clean Air Act. Having completed that analysis and received additional public comment, JPACT and the Metro Council will consider the final RTP for adoption this Thursday, June 10.
JPACT will meet from 7:30 to 9 a.m., and the Metro Council will meet beginning at 2 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Council Chamber at Metro Regional Center. Following adoption of the RTP by both bodies, the plan will be submitted for review and approval to both the Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
