From harvesting homegrown organic edibles to pepping up a parking strip with drought-tolerant native plants, Metro’s September lineup of natural gardening workshops offers lessons for success without toxic chemicals. Part of Metro’s 2010 series of more than 60 free natural gardening presentations across the region, the hands-on workshops help participants learn techniques and practices that conserve resources, maximize the area’s native plants and reduce reliance on garden chemicals harmful to people, pets and waterways.
September workshops include the following free offerings and more:
- Cooking from the garden, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, in Forest Grove.
- Winter cover crops for soil health, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, Portland
- Blooms for birds, bees and butterflies, noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, Beaverton
