When you imagine someone in the outdoors, who do you see? Who is the hiker, kayaker, camper, conservationist, rock climber, fisher or nature lover in your mind? For that matter, what do imagine when you hear the word "nature?" In this issue of Our Big Backyard, Alejandra Cortes, a Metro nature educator, digs into that history and the ideas the define nature to see where they came from, how they create barriers for people of color to access the outdoors and to show that there are other ways and traditions of imagining nature.
