The Metro Council voted 6-1 Thursday to adopt the last piece of an historic 50-year plan for protecting farm and forest land while allowing for additional housing and jobs in limited areas outside the current urban growth boundary and focusing additional investment and redevelopment in existing communities.

Car-cyclist accident highlights the importance of Metro's work to close trail gaps

A cyclist was struck by a car this morning in Northeast Portland – at an intersection near property where Metro’s voter-approved Natural Areas Program recently secured rights to extend the Marine Drive Trail. “When we talk about trails, people immediately think of outdoor recreation. That’s important, but so is public safety,” said Metro Council President Tom Hughes. “Although trails don’t eliminate the possibility of accidents, they make a big difference.”

Streetcar moves forward after city councils OK it, but the big vote could be in 2012

Lake Oswego City Council approves streetcar as "preferred alternative" with a 4-3 vote, but the project will be subject to an advisory ballot question no later than May 2012. Portland City Council votes 4-1 in favor of streetcar.

Metro hosts talk on transportation links to farmers markets for low-income families

Join Metro, the Oregon Public Health Institute and the Hillsboro Farmers Market for a presentation to learn about barriers preventing low-income families from accessing healthy foods from their neighborhood farmers markets. The presentation will take place Tuesday, April 26 at Metro Regional Center, 600 NE Grand Avenue in Portland, in rooms 370A and B, from noon to 1 p.m.

Stafford board approves letter about feasibility study

The letter wasn't a request to urbanize now, or anytime soon. Instead, the letter notified Clackamas County commissioners of the board's support for the results of a vote at an April 9 town hall about some of the issues surrounding the eventual development of Stafford.

Metro’s voter-approved Natural Areas Program filled a crucial gap this month, buying six acres along Telford Road. Combined with several Metro properties to the north and south, the new acquisition creates a 35-acre natural area along one of the region’s signature waterways and trails.
