Police launched a criminal investigation into bones found in a dirt pile at Blue Lake Park on Monday. Metro says no dirt has been moved from cemeteries to Blue Lake Park since January.

Metro Council finalizes study areas for fall growth management decision

Today the Metro Council directed its staff to study several areas outside of the region’s urban growth boundary that can support the creation of good jobs and new communities while supporting investments in existing communities. This fall, the Metro Council is expected to consider whether (and, if so, where) to expand the UGB.

Glen, 55, has been working with Metro’s natural gardening program for 17 years. This summer, he’s teaching free workshops around the region as part of Metro’s natural gardening workshop series, happening now through September.

Metro seeks improved security near Blue Lake after former employee of private burial contractor unearths remains

A man who told reporters he is a former employee of a private excavation company Metro hired to assist with burials recently called renewed attention to the presence of human remains in the soil on vacant Metro property near Blue Lake Regional Park. Remains were originally discovered in January of this year.

Metro Council adopts new district maps

The Metro Council voted 6-0 today to adopt a new map of Metro Council districts that will remain in effect for at least the next 10 years, beginning with the 2012 election cycle. Each new Metro Council district will comes within 3.5 percent of the average district population of 248,362 people, based on the results of the U.S. Census.

Now imagine watching an invasive weed new to the Portland metropolitan area clog ponds at the Blue Heron Wetlands and make its way to nearby waterways including Smith and Bybee lakes. Efforts to protect, restore, promote and celebrate nature throughout the Portland metropolitan region received a nearly $1.6 million boost from Metro on Thursday.
