Music, food and nature on tap Sept. 17 at Metro’s Blue Lake Nature and Culture Festival

Mark you calendars! It’s almost time for the second annual Blue Lake Nature and Culture Festival. This year’s festival, on Saturday, Sept. 17, will mark the end of summer and celebrate the diverse communities who use the park, says Ellen Wyoming DeLoy, senior communications and engagement coordinator at Metro.

Willamette Falls Legacy Project wins top award from the Waterfront Center

A plan to transform former industrial land in downtown Oregon City into one of Oregon’s iconic destinations has received a major national award. The Willamette Falls Legacy Project’s vision and master plan won the highest planning honor in the national Waterfront Center’s “Excellence on the Waterfront” program, which recognizes efforts to create great places along the water.

The new acquisition includes a 3.5-acre kolk pond, created by whirlpools that scoured out deep areas. Flanking the pond are basalt hills called hummocks.

River Island restoration helps Clackamas River heal from gravel mine, flood

This summer’s construction work on the north side of the Clackamas River is the second stage of a large-scale restoration of River Island, a 240-acre natural area that includes wetlands, oak savanna, and upland and riparian forests.
