The Metro Charter requires that a standing community advisory committee be established and maintained by the Metro Office of Citizen Involvement. The Public Engagement Review Committee serves as a key component of Metro’s efforts to develop successful public engagement processes.
Committee responsibilities and activities include:
- Attending meetings regularly.
- Reviewing and making recommendations on Metro's engagement practices and the Public Engagement Guide
- Reviewing the annual public engagement report
- Making recommendations to the Metro Council about engagement priorities.

Criteria for membership includes:
- Community service: Demonstrated commitment to meaningful community involvement
- Diversity: Collectively representative of the geographic and demographic diversity of the greater Portland region
- Equity: Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of inclusive outreach strategies that advance racial equity and make space for people of marginalized identities
- Experience: Demonstrated skills, knowledge or experience valuable to support Metro’s public engagement principles

Stipends are available for qualifying community members and organizations. Metro commits to support people who need accommodations for disabilities and language access.
Membership
The committee includes at least three at-large community members, three staff or board members from local community organizations and/or business community representatives and three public involvement staff members from Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington local county governments. Local jurisdiction representatives are appointed by the sponsoring county. Below is a list of current members.
