The pace of the recruitment process varies, depending on the number of applicants, availability of reviewers and other factors. Applicants are usually notified at the end of each phase if they are not moving forward.
The general process is outlined below, but may change based on the type of position, number of applicants and other factors. If you have questions, reach out to the recruiter on the job posting or email [email protected].
Human Resources application review
After the position closes, a Metro recruiter screens each application for completeness and identifies whether it meets the job’s minimum qualifications. Depending on the number of applicants, this may take up to two weeks – but in the case of large pools of qualified applicants, it can take longer. Successful applications move forward to department review.
Department review
A panel of experts and stakeholders evaluates each candidate’s application based on the experience, knowledge, skills and abilities outlined in the job announcement. This can take two to three weeks. Candidates who best match the requirements of the position will be invited to interview.
Panel interviews
Interviews can be in person, by video conference or by telephone. A panel of Metro employees and/or representatives from partner organizations will ask questions to help evaluate your experience and knowledge, and the highest-scoring candidates will move forward. Second interviews are common at Metro, and some managerial or more technical positions could require more than two interviews.
Additional evaluation steps
Depending on the position, Metro may ask you to take an assessment to demonstrate skills that are relevant to the job. These assessments are scored, with the highest-scoring candidates moving forward in the selection process.
Finalist selection and reference check
If you are selected as a finalist, the hiring manager may check your references before taking the next step.
Pre-employment screening
If your application is successful, you will receive a verbal offer from the hiring manager. The offer will typically include details on salary, working schedule, work location and start date. Once the details have been confirmed, you will receive a written offer letter to sign and return.
