The Metro Council's long-term vision for smart public investments that make the most of our current resources includes the creation of high quality, sustainable neighborhoods throughout the region. To help bring this vision to fruition, Metro will help sponsor the 2010 EcoDistricts Summit, a global conference dedicated to neighborhood-scale sustainability and innovation. The conference runs from Monday, Oct. 25 to Wednesday, Oct. 27 and will include sessions on district utilities, green building, smart energy grids, transportation, urban habitat, water management, waste management and community development.
Key speakers include Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Portland Mayor Sam Adams, Rob Bennett, executive director of the Portland Sustainability Institute, and Clark Brockman, associate principal and director or Sera Architects' Sustainability Resources Group. Event attendees include sustainable development business leaders, practitioners, advocates and academics. Participants will gain a better understanding of the EcoDistricts Initiative and similar projects around the globe.
