Admission to the Oregon Zoo could go up $1 next year if the Metro Council approves a rate increase at its Thursday meeting.
The council already adopted the $1 admission increase in its 2012-13 budget, but the ordinance on Thursday's agenda puts the fee increase into code.
The increase would take effect on Feb. 1.
Admission to the Oregon Zoo would be $11.50 for adults and teens, $8.50 for children who are 3 to 11 years old, and $10 for people older than 65.
Admission would remain free for children younger than 2 years old. Zoo spokesman Hova Najarian said school group rates would not change under the proposal.
Comparatively, the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle charges between $11.75 and $17.75 for adults depending on the season; Utah's Hogle Zoo charges between $9.75 and $12.75 depending on the season. Year-round, the Los Angeles Zoo charges $17, the Oregon Coast Aquarium $18.95 and the San Diego Zoo charges $42 for adults.
The Oregon Zoo last increased rates in 2009, when rates were increased by 75 cents for adults.
