Metro's Data Resource Center creates and maintains a geographic information system, or GIS, database known as Regional Land Information System (RLIS) Live. The database contains more than 100 map layers, including municipal boundaries, zoning designations, streets, tax lots, and census block groups.
Starting this month, RLIS Live users may apply a comprehensive 2012 voter precinct layer for Washington, Clackamas and Multnomah counties. That means users may combine the three counties' voter precinct data with county election results to map regional voting patterns and trends. Users may also overlay the voter precinct layer with census data, available in RLIS Live, to analyze other demographic information, including median age, income, and ethnicity.
"Instead of users having to source precinct data from each county, this regional data set provides a single data source for the region." noted Zac Christensen, the DRC’s Operation Supervisor.
Metro updates much of the RLIS data quarterly. A large number of map layers, including voter precinct data, are available free to non-subscribers. Subscribers pay $480 annually and may access unlimited data anywhere via the Internet. There are no limitations on the number of users per subscription.
