Metro councilors Carlotta Collette and Kathryn Harrington have been honored with Woman of the Year awards by the Portland Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar. The group cited their leadership and hard work toward achieving agreement on the region's urban and rural reserves process.
The Woman of the Year award recognizes women who made an outstanding contribution to the transportation field and who advance the credibility of women in transportation.
The awards are in recognition of Collette and Harrington as "excellent role models for leaders in the region, showing how dedication and a collaborative style can bring positive results that will have a profound impact on growth and the transportation system of the Portland region."
The work urban and rural reserves, led by Metro and Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties, was a unique process to determine the best places for future urban growth and those best preserved for farms and forests. Reserves will guide land use decisions in the next five decades.
The mission of Women's Transportation Seminar is to transform the transportation industry through the advancement of women.
The awards ceremony takes place Wednesday, May 12.
