Floods along the Sandy River can cause erosion on the riverbanks at Oxbow Regional Park.
Heavy rains have temporarily closed Oxbow Regional Park.
The park, east of Gresham, hugs the Sandy River, which is quickly approaching road level in the area. The closure is expected to last through the week, when colder weather is forecast to turn the rain that's flooding the Sandy into snow that gradually melts.
Visitors can call 503-663-4708 for information on whether the park is still closed during the weekend. Signs and barricades are also in place, staff said.
Located within the wild and scenic Sandy River Gorge, Metro's Oxbow Regional Park offers rare access to many of the region’s natural wonders while providing a variety of unique recreational opportunities. The river draws swimmers, rafters, kayakers and drift boats carrying anglers. The park also has a campground (which is also temporarily closed).
