Metro invites you to help finalize the vision for the regional strategy that will make it easier and safer to walk, ride a bicycle and access transit at a community open house, Thursday, May 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Metro Council Chamber.
The open house is an opportunity for area residents to learn more, and contribute, to the Regional Active Transportation Plan. The plan will define a preferred network of pedestrian corridors and bicycle parkways that will link the region and make it easy to get to work and school, run errands and have fun walking and bicycling.
The plan will become an amendment the Regional Transportation Plan, updating policies, targets and performance measures and establishing priorities for funding. The high-level active transportation network is envisioned to be constructed incrementally with each segment connecting and resulting in a region-wide, interconnected system.
A successful plan will make it easier for cities and counties to fund and build improvements that make great communities; guide regional investments for years to come; identify a pipeline of projects that can be built in a way that makes the greatest impact for the region; and increase the use of biking, walking and public transit across the metropolitan area.
The plan will be developed by the Stakeholder Advisory Committee. The Metro Council, the Metro Policy Advisory Committee, the Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation and other Metro committees will provide guidance throughout the planning process.
