Public invited to help shape neighborhood park in Clackamas County, funded in part by Metro grant

Help put the "Park" in the Hawthorne Park neighborhood of Clackamas County, attending upcoming public meetings to shape a one-acre recreation area. Metro's Nature in Neighborhoods program awarded the future park a $140,000 capital grant, supplementing funding from the Clackamas County Development Agency.

New chef to boost local, sustainable focus of Metro's visitor venues

The Oregon Convention Center, Portland Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA) and Portland Expo Center welcomes Stephen Marshall as the new executive chef for the three venues. ARAMARK, the exclusive food and beverage contractor for the venues, selected Marshall after an extensive national search that included food demonstrations and event menus planned with locally-sourced, Pacific Northwest seasonal ingredients.

No clear paths on Metro's solid waste road map

Staff identifies 13 projects to tackle as Metro starts thinking about the 2020 turnover in solid waste contracts. But as the agency thinks about ways to reduce trash sent to landfills, it's faced with a challenge - more than a quarter of the agency's revenue comes from trash fees and taxes.

Metro awarded grant for bike, walk project in three WA county cities

Kaiser Permanente awarded Metro Regional Travel Options a $75,000 grant to support a new project currently called “Vámanos! Let’s explore Cornelius, Forest Grove and Hillsboro by bike and foot.” The goal of the project is to increase awareness of places to bike and walk among families in Cornelius, Forest Grove and Hillsboro. The project will have a specific focus on connecting with Latino families.

Housing subcommittee suggests more tweaks for Title 11

Metro Council delivers $68,500 grant package to Northwest Portland

The Metro Council sent a grants package valued at $68,500 to Northwest Portland late last week with monies earmarked for neighborhood improvements. Funds will be used for bricks and mortar capital improvements at nonprofits that serve the area’s low-income residents, as well as for some innovative projects that engage seniors and teens.

How Metro Council vacancies are filled

On Jan. 3, Metro Councilor Robert Liberty announced that he will be resigning his position, effective Jan. 15, to become the director of the University of Oregon’s Sustainable Cities Initiative. Since that announcement, questions have been raised about how a vacancy on the Metro Council gets filled.

Hosticka named Deputy Council President

Carl Hosticka has been named Deputy President of the Metro Council. He was appointed to the position by President Tom Hughes, and confirmed by the Metro Council to serve a one-year term through December, 2011.

Metro Council votes to support statewide plastic bag ban

During its first council meeting with newly elected President Tom Hughes and District 1 Councilor Shirley Craddick, the Metro Council passed a resolution introduced by Councilor Rex Burkholder and co-sponsored by Craddick to support a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at retail stores.
