People living in greater Portland have an opportunity this month to weigh in on the route of a 12-mile MAX light rail line proposed in the Southwest Corridor. Metro unveiled an interactive online map this week designed to collect public comments through the end of November.
The general route of the light rail would connect downtown Portland to Tigard to Bridgeport Village in Tualatin. But transportation planners still need to decide the exact route in four areas along the way.
“This is a good opportunity to weigh in on where portions of the route should go and how this light rail should connect these communities,” said Eryn Kehe, senior communications specialist at Metro.
The interactive online map provides information about the different choices in these four areas, along with comparisons of benefits and complications.
It’s available in two additional languages: Spanish and Vietnamese.
“We welcome our Spanish and Vietnamese speakers to participate in this effort to provide more transportation choices that include this light rail,” Kehe said.
Feedback collected through this online map tool will help inform an initial route proposal that will be released with the environmental impact statement early next year.
“People will have a second chance to share their feedback after the initial route proposal is shared,” Kehe said. “But if they don’t chime in this month, then they’ll be reacting to the proposal. The time to comment is now.”
The steering committee will take into account feedback collected during the public comment period.
