Metro is recruiting community members to serve on the Committee on Racial Equity. The committee advises Metro decision-makers on how to center racial justice while developing policies, programs and investments. Members meet monthly to advise on issues related to housing, transportation, land use, waste management, and other areas.
What will you do as a member of CORE?
- Provide oversight to Metro Council on the agency’s Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- Bring your personal and professional lived experience to issues ranging from housing, land use and transportation planning, natural areas, and other policies and programs that impact your community
- Work alongside fellow committee members to improve equitable outcomes for Black, Indigenous, and communities of color in greater Portland.
What experience is needed?
- A commitment to racial equity, social and environmental justice, diversity and inclusion
- Experience utilizing a racial equity lens or framework to ask critical questions and advocate for change
- Live in Clackamas, Washington or Multnomah counties
- Ability to serve a two-year term and attend monthly meetings every third Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Experience working in a group (committee, board, volunteer group, etc.) with people of diverse perspectives and experiences
- Some familiarity with public policy and local government.
