Metro offices will be closed Dec. 25, 2014, and Jan. 1, 2015, in observance of Christmas and New Year's days.
Although some Metro facilities will be closed to give employees time with their families, others will remain open for special community events. Sites with special events or closures are:
Central and south transfer stations: Closed on Christmas and New Year's days.
MetroPaint: The store on Swan Island will be closed Christmas and New Year's days.
Oregon Zoo: The Oregon Zoo will be closed on Christmas Day but will be open on New Year’s Day.
ZooLights, a holiday favorite, runs through Jan. 4, except on Dec. 10, 24 and 25. At ZooLights, more than a million LED lights transform the Oregon Zoo into a luminous winter wonderland filled with moving sculptures, forests of lighted trees and animal silhouettes. The popular ZooLights train returns this year, taking visitors on a ride through a sparkling new light experience.
Parks, natural areas and boat ramps: All except Oxbow Regional Park will be closed Christmas and New Year's days.
If you’re looking for something to do Christmas or New Year's Day, take a nature walk in Oxbow Regional Park's ancient forest. Located within the wild and scenic Sandy River Gorge, Oxbow offers rare access to many of the region's natural wonders while providing a variety of unique recreational opportunities. Twelve miles of trails invite you to explore centuries-old trees, ridges and ravines carved by volcanic and glacial flows.
Glendoveer Golf and Tennis Center: Closed Christmas Day. Glendoveer is collecting donations for two holiday drives:
Through Dec. 21: Donate toys for KGW’s Great Toy Drive and Portland Fire & Rescue's Toy & Joy Makers.
Dec. 1 to 18: Purchase a small gift through the "Serendipity Giving Tree" to benefit students at the Serendipity Center, a nonprofit therapeutic school for at-risk students in east Portland. The tree will be located in the Pro Shop.
Portland Expo Center, Oregon Convention Center and PORTLAND'5 Centers for the Arts (Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Keller Auditorium, Dolores Winningstad, Brunish and Newmark Theatres): Closed Christmas and New Year's days except the Dolores Winningstad Theatre, where you can enjoy The Mystery of Irma Vep on Jan. 1.
