Several ideas are on the table for future improvements and new opportunities at Glendoveer and they all include a golf course and the fitness trail. Come to a community open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 1 and learn about the options being considered.
The open house will be held at the Glendoveer fitness trail parking lot, located on Northeast 148th Avenue and Halsey Street. Metro Council members and staff will be there to listen to community ideas, answer questions and provide information about next steps.
Metro initiated the Glendoveer facility assessment and business plan project to evaluate the site's conditions and identify opportunities for improvement. Staff presented potential investment scenarios for updating and improving the facility to the Metro Council at a work session on July 19.
Though no decisions were made, councilors agreed that in any scenario for the property, golf would remain at Glendoveer. Staff was given approval to research options including courses ranging from 18 to 36 holes and repurposing the tennis facility into an event center to attract golf tournaments.
Councilors agreed that the idea of potentially making some or all of the facility into a park wasn’t the right direction for Glendoveer, and golf and the fitness trail should remain the priority. The plan will result in a competitive bidding process this fall, calling for proposals to operate the facility beginning in 2013.
