Metro Attorney Carrie MacLaren
The Metro Council announced Monday that it has selected Carrie MacLaren, deputy director of the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, as the new Metro Attorney.
MacLaren has been practicing law in Oregon for 20 years, most recently in her role at the state land use regulation agency. As director of the Office of the Metro Attorney, MacLaren will lead a staff of 10 attorneys as well as the legal and administrative staff that serves the people of the Metro region in matters of law.
“I care deeply about the Metro region, its diverse communities and its people” MacLaren said. “I’m excited to work and support an organization with Metro’s mission, creating a livable region for all of its residents. I see Metro as having a multitude of roles in that conversation – as a convener, as a leader and as an implementer.”
Metro Council President Lynn Peterson said MacLaren’s track record of public service was a key factor in her hire.
“Carrie’s values are Oregon values – a love of the things that make this region a special place, and a commitment to effective leadership for our legal team,” Peterson said. “I know Carrie will bring integrity and a problem-solving attitude to that department.”
MacLaren’s family are longtime Oregonians, and she is a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law. After graduating from UO, MacLaren worked in the private sector at Miller Nash and Black Helterline, in the nonprofit sector at 1000 Friends of Oregon and then in the public sector, serving as deputy director of DLCD since 2012.
